Natural structure of the Avsa Island;

In the meaning of area, moonstones, granite, gray, cristaline, systs amd marble is dominating, and is covered sandy soil, consisting granite and grano-dioride main rocks. The sand relation is relative high. Granite stones are spread over the island surface.

Regarding the climate, Avsa Island has the attributes of the regional climate, whereby it also reflects the attributes of the Mediterranean Climate. The average temperature during summer months is above 30°C.

The most important attribute of the Beyaz Saray Bay in Avsa Island is, that it is a special bay, where it is possible to swim from May till the end of October, where it may be lived solely with the nature, where the average temperatures are due to its’ location high, where the air movements are not stormy but as spring winds, where the temperature difference to Avsa centre and other regions is by +5°C, but which is not disturbing people.

Sea Food

In May, seabass swarms, in September, bluefish and chub mackarel swarms and in October, swarms of mackarels, bonitos, whitings and anchovies pass to the Marmara Sea through the Bosphorus. The traditional fishes of Avşa Island are mullet, gray mullet, horse mackarel, halibut, flounder, growler, smelt, whiting and picarel. Beside these, also ballan wrasse, brown wrasse, grouper and wiver are among them.

Among the shell fishes of the island, lobster, spring lobster, spider crab, crab, shrimp, clam, rock and sand mussel, oyster may be counted.

And Beyaz Saray Bay is a natural fish depot; we call it the “fish garden”. The sea food, caught in the fish garden of the hotel, are served daily and fresh on your dishes. Enjoy your meal.

History and Historical Sites of Avsa Island

The island has several names, which changed during past centuries till today. Dionenes of Cysikos mentions that it was called due Mother Mary Monastry “Panagia” as he’s telling about the Propontis Islands.

According to Gedeon, who made historical investigations on Marmara Islands, on a document dated to 1892 of the Patriarchy, the name of the island is noted as Aousia. Contemporary, the turkished name of Avşa is started to be used and by a conclusion, the official name of the island got Avsa Island.

The first written information of the native population of the island is mentioned in the texts of the geographer Strabon and historian Plinius. The island, which was used as a place of abannition for christian ecclesiastics, stood empty during the whole medieval.

Beyaz Saray Bay, meaning the old Cinar spot – holds an important place in the unknown past of the Ayazma Avsa Island.

That the greatest existing plane tree of the island got destroyed due to a thunderbolt and burning out couldn’t avoid that it was a witness of history beside the spring waters, sparkling out next to its’ roots.

Its’ wide body is lying as a monument on the earth, hundreds of plane trees, rised out of its’ roots, are witnesses of the history.

The oldest settlement area of Avsa Island is the Cinar (Plane Tree) Spot, meaning Ayazma, the Beyaz Saray Bay.
